Match Report
Another Friday evening game for the lads next, and against familiar opposition in the form of Old Rutlishians, the team than knocked them out of the cup earlier in the season.
Played at Ruts ‘Nursery Road’ ground, the small playing area would require a good deal of discipline from the bowlers. Captain Jack Strange lost the toss and led his team out into the field to take up the challenge as Ruts chose to set a target for the visitors.
Jack, and Adam Lawrence opened the bowling, and they started well, conceding only 2 runs off the bat from the first two overs. Ruts openers then started to find the short boundaries though, taking the run rate up to 5 an over, and it took a sensible piece of work in the field from John Rose to run out Vandepeer for 14 when the score was on 26.
John then came on first change, and after going for 12 in his first over, pulled it back with a good spell of 4 overs for 16. At the other end, Rhys Arbuckle replaced Adam, 0 for 12, and he too bowled well, starting with a maiden and conceding only ten from his first three overs.
The home sides strong batting line up continued to prosper though, and after opener Ahmed was run out by Jack, and his partner!!, a good 40 run partnership followed. This was broken when Sean Newsom, in identical fashion to the league game, bowled the impressive Patel.
Ruts moved well passed the hundred mark though, and it could have been more but for a great last over from Adam. With the batters looking to attack, Adam removed top scorer Dawson, and conceded only 6 runs, to see him finish with 1 for 18 and Old Rust end on 113 for 4.
A pretty decent effort by the lads, with ‘Keeper Conor McElligott only conceding one bye all innings and the lads fielding together as a unit well. Against the sharpest opening bowling seen all season, openers Daniel Singh and Alex Cottrell looked for a steady start, but a full fast delivery was too good for Alex and he was out for a duck in the first over.
After hitting Chessy’s first four, Conor was next out, unluckily unable to do anything as the ball rolled back onto his stumps after a bat and pad defensive shot. Jack then came in to join Daniel, and he continued to show good form with the bat, finding the boundry with some quality pull shots. The score had quickly moved onto 40 when Daniel was out in the fifth over for 5, and John came in to partner his captain.
Jack then went for 15 after a twenty run partnership with John, and Chessy going at over 7 runs an over. Unfortunately wickets continued to fall, with Sean, bowled, and Rhys, run out going for a third run. All the time though John was going along nicely, and he found some decent support from Callum Rawkins as the quicks came back on.
When Callum went for 6, and his brother Kieran for a duck, it was left to John and last man Adam to scramble what they could, and they took the score on towards the hundred mark.
It was a great last over for Chessy, and John especially, as he hit the penultimate ball for 4, and then smashed a fabulous straight six to take his score onto 32, and his team past the one hundred mark for the first time, Chessy ending on 103 for 8.
A great game again!

Match Report
The Under 11’s last home league match was against Spencer, and after winning the toss, Captain Jack Strange put the opposition in to bat.
Given the new ball between them, Alex Cottrell and Kieran Rawkins started well against Spencer’s accomplished openers.
The score had moved onto 42 before Chessy broke through, when Adam Lawrence bowled Boys-Stones for 24.
The visitors middle order looked to attack at every opportunity though, and credit goes to the lads for a big improvement in the field from their last game.
Good run out’s from Daniel Singh and John Rose kept up the spirit in the field, and although a couple of catches went down, Spencer’s final total of 128 for 5 could have been higher.
John, 1 for 18, Adam, 1 for 20 and two good overs for only 6 runs from Kieran all backed up Jack, who was the pick of the bowlers with 4 overs 1 for 14.
It was a bad start for Chessy as they replied though, Wicket Keeper Thomas Mathias went to the very first ball, and two balls later it was 2 for no score as Callum Rawkins was also clean bowled for a duck.
With opener Daniel Singh hanging on in there at the other end, some lusty blows from Conor McElligott, who made 14, pushed the score forward.
When Conor was out, Jack joined Sean Newsome at the crease and he started to hit the ball well. The score flew towards 50 as Jack found the boundry with four quality shots, but when on 21, he was bowled.
When Sean was out for 3,John then came in to join Daniel, and he started well with two four’s, but in the end Chessy finished their twenty overs on 71 for 6, with Daniel run out in the last over for 11.
Once again Chessy’s lack of experience in most forms of the game told against a team full of well drilled players, but with good attitude and patience as the boys develop their cricket, the lads can challenge these types of teams in the future.

Match Report
A home fixture against Wimbledon was up next for the Under 11’s.It was a blustery morning and after winning the toss,Captain Conor McElligott asked the visitors to bat first.
Jack Strange and Conor took the new ball, and Jack, once more, bowled with good pace and bounce, and when the score was on 13, he took the first wicket. Unfortunately Jack lacked support, and Wimbledon started to build a decent score.
To make things worse, Chessy’s bowlers struggled with the blustery conditions and ended up conceding 53 extras in Wimbledon’s final score of 136 for 5.
A wicket each for Kieran Rawkins and John Rose slowed the runs for a while, but apart from Jack, who finished with 2 for 10 from four overs, and a superb run out from Sean Newsom, Chessy under achieved in the field.
In reply, openers Sean and Alex Cottrell both went early for ducks, and when Conor followed soon after for only 3 runs it was left to Jack and John to try and rebuild the innings.
After taking the score from 5 into the twenty’s, both lads were out and Chessy limped to a score of 40 for 5 from their twenty overs.
In an ever improving season, this was a ‘bad day at the office’ for the lads, who must now work hard and try to find a confidence boosting win or two from their remaining matches.

Match Report
An away match at Ashtead saw the under 11’s back in League action in the last match of a very busy week!
Ashtead won the toss and their Skipper elected to bat. He must have wished he’d fielded first after the game’s first ball, bowled by Chessy Captain Jack Strange, beat him all ends up to clean bowl him. Two runs later he was joined by his fellow opener, run out by some sharp work from Callum Rawkins in what was a fantastic start from Chessy. Jack, 3 overs 1 for 3, and John Rose, 2 overs for only two runs, meant it was a tricky opening few overs for the home side.
Ashtead’s middle order gradually started to put some partnerships together though, and they finished their twenty overs on 87 for 8.
First wickets of the season for Callum, brother Kieran, and Connor McCloughlin continued the teams improvement, but the highlight of the innings was undoubtedly a superb pick up and direct hit from Rhys Arbuckle that gave the batsmen no chance.
For good measure, Rhys combined with Jack to supply a third run out in the innings.
A mention too for Thomas Mathias, keeping wicket for only the second time this season, conceding only 2 byes in a terrific performance.
In reply it was a struggle for the visitors, and they were soon 15 for 5 with Rhys, Jack,John,Callum and Billy Winter all out cheaply.
Some sensible batting from Kieran pushed the score towards fifty, but the Ashtead Captain came on to take 3 wickets for nought to see Chessy all out for 43.
A disappointing game after two very good performances, but with some positives to take away from the game, the lads could still pick up some more wins in their remaining matches.

Match Report
It was a Wednesday evening Cup match next for the lads, and they were drawn away against a decent and well drilled Rutlishians side.
Captain for the game John Rose lost the toss and the home side elected to bat first.
Despite a strong early batting line up, John and Adam Lawrence kept the run rate at 3 an over with some good accurate bowling, and a late inswinger from John proved too good for opener Rowlinson.
This brought together Ruts best two batters, but first change Jack Strange carried on the good work with a lively spell.
Ruts played with good patience though, and helped by a few overthrows and extras they slowly increased the run rate.
Chessy spinner Sean Newsom accounted for opener Patel for 27 , but that was their last success and the home team finished on 105 for two, with Ruts skipper Ahmed retiring on a well made 32. Jack’s 3 overs nought for 6 the highlight for Chessy in a decent all round effort.
Sean and Jack opened for the visitors and they too played sensible, putting away the bad ball, and the score was on 33 before Sean missed a straight one and was bowled.
Chessy took the game to the visitors though, with Jack(18),Rhys Arbuckle(10) and a super 25 from John giving the home team a few worries. But despite some frantic running at the end from Kieran Rawkins, Subs Biswas and Connor McCloughlin, Chessy fell just 15 runs short.
Another great performance from the fast improving under 11’s, and with a bit more discipline in the field, this game could have been another ‘nailbiter’.

Match Report
A lovely warm sunny morning greeted the team and their supporters for their next league game, an away fixture against Worcester Park.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat, but it was the ball that was dominant as only 9 runs came from the bat from the first six overs. Opening bowlers Adam Lawrence, 1 for 5, and John Rose, with two straight maidens, 1 for 4, really put the pressure on the home batters.
Captain Adam then bought Jack Strange into the attack, and he carried on the great work, bowling with good pace and control. Bowling straight through, Jack finished with the excellent figures of 4 overs 1 maiden, 2 for 7.
A tenacious knock from Greene (33), batting at three, took the score past 50, but Chessy kept up the pressure with run outs from Adam, Jack and a direct hit from Subs Biswas.
Worcester Park ending up on 81 for 8, with Adam finishing up with 2 for 5 from his four, and John 1 for 6 from four.
In a dramatic start to their innings, Chessy lost Sean Newsom first ball and then proceeded to miss straight deliveries to leave themselves struggling on 28 for 6!
It was a good day for number three’s though, and Chessy keeper Conor McElligott kept his cool to keep the scoreboard moving. He found good support from John and Connor McCloughlin, and the target suddenly was in reach.
Conor then had to retire to great applause after making his thirty, and then Callum Rawkins joined Connor as a frantic last couple of overs loomed. They managed to keep up the singles, but more drama followed as Connor’s innings came to an end when he was slow out of the blocks and was run out.
Last man Adam nervously walked to the non strikers end with three needed from 5 balls,
And after a no ball from Greene and a sharp single from Callum, one run was needed from the last two balls. With the scores level, a dot ball followed, but as the final delivery came down, Adam got enough bat on ball for the boys to scramble home for the winning run.
Great celebrations followed, but credit to both sides for a fantastic game played in a great spirit.

Next up for the U11’s were Leatherhead & Cobham, and the visitors won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Captain for the day Connor McElligott opened the innings with Sean Newsom, and they combined well to give Chessy their best opening partnership so far this season. Connor, who hit 12, was severe on anything loose down the leg side, and the ever improving Sean, who’s six runs featured a great hit straight back past the bowler for four, were looking great until they both fell LBW playing across straight deliveries.
Jack Strange and John Rose then chipped in with useful runs, and with better, and more aware running between the wickets from all the lads, the score could have been more than the 52 for 4 achieved.
In reply, the visitors batted steadily, and although a couple of tough chances went down, John with 3 overs 1 for 3, Adam Lawrence, 2 overs for 5 ,Jack,3 overs for 11 and a much improved performance in the field, made it hard work for the visitors, who eventually got to their target in the thirteenth over.

Match Report
A very strong Esher side were the next League opponents for the 11’s and Captain for the day Adam Lawrence won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.
Some great batting from Hand, and the excellent Winder, saw Esher start well, but two wickets in his first over from Adam, and a wicket in his first over from John Rose, pegged back the run rate.
With six overs to go, Chessy, with some good bowling and fielding, had restricted Esher to 67, but it all fell apart, as the visitors took a liking to the bowling of Subdoheep Biswas, Sean Newsom and Harry Roberts, not helped by the fielding and backing up, to plunder 72 runs from the last 6 overs.
A fine spell amongst the carnage at the end from Callum Rawkins, 2 overs 0 for 5, deserves a mention, alongside John’s 2 overs 1 for 6, and Adam’s 3 overs 2 for 15. Esher finishing on a formidable 139 for 3.
Despite the early loss of Kieran Rawkins, some good batting from Sean and Jack Strange, who hit two sweetly timed 4’s, gave Chessy a steady start.
But when Jack was bowled by the spin of Reynolds, it was a struggle for the lads against a well drilled and disciplined bowling side, and they did well to bat out their twenty overs, finishing on 31 for 8.
An enterprising knock of 11 from John, which featured one 4 and a big hit for 6,was the only other bright spot.
