Canadian Cricketers to Visit CCC in 2 week UK Cricket Education

CCC are to host a CIMA Toronto Mayor's XI from Saturday 16th August 2008 for 2 weeks.

On Monday August 16^th Canada’s top young cricketers are arriving for a two week tour of England. The team is the brain child of David Miller, the Mayor of Toronto, and is sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

The 12 young cricketers in the range of 16 to 20 years, are inspirational characters and were selected for not only their cricket skills, they have all demonstrated significant involvement and achievements in projects within their local communities and schools. Several of the players are training with the Canadian National Academy and are the future for the Canadian National team and cricket in Canada.

The touring party have received extensive national news coverage in Canada, (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTbemDZy0iA) as the passion and personality of the Canadian CIMA Toronto Mayor’s XI is closely followed by the Canadian press the trip promises to be educational, eventful and inspiring to all involved.

The team will be welcomed to England on Monday evening at an official reception hosted by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames. English cricket has made the headlines daily throughout this summer, and the visit could not come at a greater time in terms of excitement, and education for the touring team

The team are visiting the home of cricket - Lords, to explore the history of the game (Wed August 20^th) as guests of the MCC, where they will be offered the rare privilege of watching a match from the famous Lords pavilion. Before Lords they will take part in the London Bridges Charity Walk (Sunday August 17^th) and then watch a Pro-40 match as guests of Surrey County Cricket Club.

The visit will not only benefit the tourists but also the English game as they experience grass roots club cricket and the culture and characters that are associated with it in England. They will train with the Chessington Cricket Club coaches and be immersed in club cricket culture, playing several matches against Surrey championship sides such as the Chessington Academy and Metropolitan Police.

It is intended to make this an annual event, educating both Canadians and English young sportsmen through the language of cricket.

Presidents Day a Success Even With Adverse Weather!

Even with some rather dodgey weather late in the day Presidents Day 2008 still turned out to be another cracking day with family and friends enjoying excellent food, drink and company while the cricketers did their best to provide some visual entertainment amid the inclement weather on the day. Please read the Presidents remarks on the day below: -

President’s Day 2008

Once again we had the most marvellous President’s Day. It proved to be yet another great success, and I do hope everybody enjoyed themselves and relaxed watching the two games that were going on even if the weather let us down a bit this year.

My thanks go to the Cricket Chairman, John Yarnley and also Paul Willis, First Team Captain, for organising the cricket side of the day and to the captains who sorted out their teams and to the guest players who turned out for us Jeff Keene and Tim Rowley umpired, thank you both. The ground was prepared by Brian Whittle, ably assisted by Pete Walter, and it can be seen what pride he takes in this work by the condition of the pitch. Thank you Brian and Pete.

It was so nice to see a lot of friends and their families on the day. Catching up on old times and reminiscing about the past at CCC is always part of the day, and long may they continue to join us over the years. It was very refreshing to hear so much laughter in the Club House with stories and anecdotes from the past bringing back fond memories.

I did thank a lot of people on the day because without their efforts, the day would just not happen and run as smoothly as it did. Everybody that helped before the day and on the day did a great job, and I personally very much appreciate all the help that was given.

Once again the lunch and teas were superb, and special thanks must go to Liz Walter and Heidi Langrish together with their team of helpers. It doesn’t just happen on a day like this, and I know how much hard work and thought goes into providing food for so many people.

Yet again the Bar Committee with their excellent staff had their work cut out to supply liquid refreshment to all the thirsty Players and Guests and deserve a very special thank you.

Thanks must also go to those people who bought raffle tickets. £272 was raised and this helps towards the expenses for the day. Also thanks to Brian Hutchings and Roy Simpson who donated some of the proceeds of the Football Cards towards the day. Cheques were also handed to me during the day from some of our visitors to go towards Club funds, and these are very much appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of the summer, and your sport. This is a great club to belong to and you are all part of it. It can only go from strength to strength with the dedication and hard work that is put into it, and those that work hard for the club are those that are giving you the opportunity to enjoy the particular sports that you are involved in. If you can get involved in any aspect of the Club, please put yourself forward, the rewards are very pleasing.

New Match Report Download Now Available

We have now introduced a standardised match report form that can be used by any XI to get their match reports uploaded onto the CCC website. Please click HERE to see the form and then make sure that every team has someone responsible for doing a match report after each game so all club members can get a feel as to how your team is doing. I will be including a seperate 'Match Report' page on the site very soon to display all match reports that are sent in. Cheers Burgey

Bank Holiday Friday Working Party Just the Job!

Bank Holiday Fri saw a hardcore dozen brave the cold and wind to begin the task of working through the list of things to do prior to the start of the season under the watchful instruction of Brian & Pete! Good effort to all those below that turned up (some less hungover than others Willis!!!) and for those that couldn't make it ..... there is always next time!!!

Brian, Pete, Yarners, Wilko (next to useless!), Head, Lordy, Wizza, Tyse, Besty, Bricky, Heidi (T shirts and Tea), The General and Burgey. Well done to all that made the effort!

Cricket and Sports Club AGM less than two weeks away

All members are advised, further to their written notification, that the Chessington Cricket & Sports club AGM is to be held at the club on Tuesday 18th March @ 8pm. It is hoped and expected that we will see a good turn out as there are a number of important topics to dicuss.

Tim Rowley (better known to us all as 'Brick-Top') is hosting another of his Quiz Nights at The Club on Friday 8th February.

8pm start / Max of 5 per team / Entry only £5.00 per team.

Be sure to make every effort to attend on what is sure to be a successfull night and tell friends and family as all are welcome on the night!

Pre Season Nets Have Started at Glyn School

The pre season nets are here already and all are urged to get the kit out the loft/garage. We have managed to secure a top quality facility this year on Monday evenings from 7pm until 9pm. Glyn school in Ewell Village is the venue and if you have any questions then just contact Wilco.
